Ear surgery- how is it performed
Ear correction surgery lasts approximately 1.5 hour. Othoplasty is performed mostly under local anesthesia however, in some cases (especially in children) general anesthesia is used. The surgeon makes small incisions on the posterior surface of the ear. Then, the skin is separated from the cartilage. The cartilage is reshaped and pulled to the back. At the end the incision is stitched to preserve new shape of the ear.
Protruding ear surgery – convalescence
After the procedure the wound is covered with dressing with antibiotics and elastic bandage in order to maintain desired shape of the ear. For several hours after the procedure the patient may experience nausea and distraction. It is a side effect of administered anesthesia. It is very important to restrain from washing your head for a week after the procedure, because this may damage ears. You will able to return to work after approximately a week after surgery. People, who do sports are recommended to wear a special head band that protects ears from various injuries. You should also wear it at night.
Ear correction surgery – outcomes
The first changes are visible directly after the procedure, although the remodeling of the cartilage lasts approximately 6 months. After this time, it will become harder and more elastic.
