Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty, is a procedure involving removal of excess skin and fat tissue from both the upper and lower eyelids that are the cause of drooping eyelids. The main purpose of this procedure is to improve eyes couture, rejuvenate eyelids and improve the field of vision.
Eyelid correction Warsaw – Why is it done?
Slackness is one of the effects of skin aging. Then the tissues of the eyelids stretch and the muscles supporting them weaken as a result of which the excess skin and adipose tissue begin to accumulate on the upper eyelids. This contributes to the formation of so-called bags under eyes and dropping of the upper eyelids and eyebrows. Therefore, both men and women undergo this procedure.
Drooping eyelids not only make our face look “restless”, but also contribute to more serious problems such as limitation of the field of vision. Eyelid surgery effectively eliminates both problems – we obtain a new, younger appearance and improve the ability to see.
Eyelid correction – who is the right candidate?
Eyelid correction should be considered if:
- excess skin limits the field of vision
- your face looks tired because of drooping eyelids
- Excess tissue on the eyelids makes makeup application impossible
Eyelids correction – advantages:
- usually invisible scars
- younger look
- improved field of vision
How to prepare for eyelid surgery?
Before the eyelid correction, it will be necessary to consult an ophthalmologist who will rule out eye diseases. Then your attending doctor will discuss your medical history and inform you about the course of the procedure. Your doctor will certainly ask you to stop taking blood thinners and quit smoking.
What does the procedure look like?
The whole procedure lasts approx. 1.5 h. The eyelid plasty is performed on both the upper and lower eyelids. During the upper eyelid surgery, we correct the excess skin, ptosis (dropping), adipose herniation, and extraocular muscle hypertrophy. In the case of the lower eyelid, we perform cantopexia that involves flexion of the angle of the eye, and canthoplasty, aiming at tightening of the outer ligament of the eye. During the procedure, the upper eyelid surgery is performed first. In a standard surgery, the doctor makes an incision along the bend line of the eyelid. Then he removes excess skin and fat tissue. In lower eyelid plastic surgery, the incision is made under the eyelash line. Then, the surgeon removes excess fat tissue and flabby skin.
